Space

Matthew Woolfrey - Space

Lyrics
you nod in the doorway, there's dust in the light
coming in through the curtains that you close at night
to hide from the people that you'll never meet
who may see us kissing from their cars in the street
and think anything of it and pass us and leave us alone

i finish my sentence one drag at a time
then light up again to establish that i am
as cool as you wanted, as still as the air
but there's dust flying through me, there's thoughts up in there
that i'll never tell you, i don't want to scare you away

and i try to appreciate this test of patience
by running around you with my shoes untied
but sooner or later i'll step on a lace
and go down in the midst of your time and the space
that i'm trying to give you, i'm trying to give you--i've tried

this delicate feeling in gentle repose
i climax without you and ask if it shows
i want you regardless of how far it goes
and wonder if you want what i already chose
i never imagine, i only suppose that you do

cause your hand's on the table, your eye's on the screen
and i'm trapped in the sub-plot of some new commercial
i think that i'll reach you by laughing when you do
but your laugh is a sigh and my laugh is a scream
ha ha ha, ha ha ha, ha ha ha, ha ha ha

and you're up to the bedroom, you're changing your shirt
i walk up the stairs, they squeak just to warn that
i'm moving behind you, my heart is racing
i don't want to rush but i'm no good at pacing
so you fix your collar and i affix my hands to you

there's talk of me dreaming, we whisper in bed
and the rumor is spreading from my heart to my head
you're not much for talking, so we listen instead
they'll tell you i'm missing and i am mislead
to believe that it's almost but not quite the dream that i had
